About me
Becky Heil has been a District Consultant at the State Library since 2011. As the Southeast district consultant, Becky found her passion guiding small and rural libraries as they work on strategic planning. As a consultant, she covers 22 counties and 92 of the state’s libraries, as well as providing continuing education across the state.
She started her library journey as a student assistant at a medium sized public library, then went on to complete her Master’s Degree at the University of Iowa. While she enjoyed her first professional job as a children’s librarian in a small county system, she quickly moved into the director’s role and stayed there for nearly 30 years. She is most proud of her work with The Association for Rural & Small Libraries as it became an independent organization; serving as treasurer, president and as the volunteer administrative assistant.
In her capacity with the State Library, she serves on the agency's continuing education team, providing many workshops and webinars for library directors, staff, and trustees. She has also presented sessions at state and national conferences. Her job with the State Library involves lots of travel, consulting and teaching, bringing together many of her interests.
